ICA was appointed directly by Accor in this case to complete the interior design of a new Ibis Styles hotel in Edinburgh’s New Town. The building, formally the office of Scottish Life Assurance is situated on the corner of St Andrews Square directly opposite Harvey Nichols.
The building will be completely transformed, with 103 new guestrooms being formed over six floors. The ground floor will be reconfigured to accommodate a reception, bar, restaurant and back of house areas.
Ibis Styles, St Andrews Square follows the theme of Scottish literary heros and poets. Each bedroom floor reflects a different iconic literary mind, such as Robert Burns or Walter Scott, achieved through subtle detailing on casegoods and large digital wallcoverings. Contemporary tartan inspired carpets and vibrant colours which vary throughout the hotel provide the guests with a unique hotel experience. Clever use of banquette seating and loose FF&E resulted in a public area layout which provides adequate seating capacity whilst breaking up the space into a mix of communal dining and more intimate groups.
Scottish inspired materials and fabrics combined with contemporary furniture, bespoke light fittings and specially commissioned artwork creates an F&B offering unlike anything else in the city.
